MCP -- Model Context Protocol -- is a way of connecting an AI assistant directly to your WordPress website so you can manage it through conversation. Type what you want done and it happens, without logging into WordPress at all.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It's an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and services. In this case, your WordPress website. Once the connection is set up, your AI assistant can read, edit, and update your site on your behalf, just from a conversation.
You type something like "update my contact page phone number" or "add a new blog post about our Christmas trading hours" and it does it. On your live site. Without you touching the WordPress backend at all.
It's one of the more genuinely useful things to come out of the AI space recently, and most small business owners don't know it exists yet.
This is where it gets interesting. Most people expect a list of simple tasks; and yes, it handles those easily. But the capability goes a lot further than that.
Everyday updates Change opening hours, update a phone number, swap out an image, tweak the wording on a service page. The kind of small jobs that feel fiddly in WordPress and get put off for weeks.
Content creation Ask it to write and publish a blog post on a topic, and it will -- formatted, categorised, and live on your site. Tell it the angle you want and it handles the rest.
Structural changes Add a new page, create a new service section, reorganise your navigation. Jobs that would normally require logging in, finding the right settings, and hoping you don't break something.
Building things from scratch This is the part that genuinely surprises people. With the right setup, you can ask it to build custom functionality for your site; a simple plugin, a custom form, a specific behaviour you've always wanted but assumed you'd need a developer for. It writes the code, installs it, and tests it. You describe what you want in plain language.
Site auditing and advice Ask it what's wrong with your site, what could be improved, or why something isn't working. It can look at your content, your structure, and your settings and give you a straight answer.
This is still early-access territory. It's genuinely impressive and we use it ourselves, but it's not a replacement for a considered web strategy or a skilled developer for complex work. For the right tasks it's fast and surprisingly capable. For others, a human is still the better call.
We'll be upfront with you about which is which before we set anything up.
There's also a subscription requirement on your end to make it work; not expensive, and we'll walk you through exactly what's needed when we chat.
Setup is charged at our standard rate of $140 + GST per hour. Getting a solid working setup in place typically takes two to three hours depending on your site.
We'll give you an honest estimate after we've had a look.
Not every WordPress setup is identical. We check your hosting, your configuration, and what you want to use it for before we start.
We handle the technical side of connecting your AI assistant to your WordPress site. It's not complicated once you know what you're doing, but it's not something most people would want to figure out themselves.
The interface itself is simple; it's just a conversation. We walk you through what it can handle, how to phrase requests to get the best results, and where the limits are.
Most clients find the first few sessions genuinely surprising. Tasks that used to feel like a chore take seconds.
