WordPress MCP setup for small businesses

MCP -- Model Context Protocol -- is a way of connecting an AI assistant directly to your WordPress website so you can manage it through conversation. Type what you want done and it happens, without logging into WordPress at all. We set up Novamira Pro, a WordPress MCP plugin that connects Claude or ChatGPT directly to your site

What is WordPress MCP and how does it work?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It's an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and services. In this case, your WordPress website. Once the connection is set up, your AI assistant can read, edit, and update your site on your behalf, just from a conversation.

You type something like "update my contact page phone number" or "add a new blog post about our Christmas trading hours" and it does it. On your live site. Without you touching the WordPress backend at all.

It's one of the more genuinely useful things to come out of the AI space recently, and most small business owners don't know it exists yet.

What can you do with an AI-connected WordPress website?

This is where it gets interesting. Most people expect a list of simple tasks; and yes, it handles those easily. But the capability goes a lot further than that.

Everyday updates Change opening hours, update a phone number, swap out an image, tweak the wording on a service page. The kind of small jobs that feel fiddly in WordPress and get put off for weeks.

Content creation Ask it to write and publish a blog post on a topic, and it will -- formatted, categorised, and live on your site. Tell it the angle you want and it handles the rest.

Structural changes Add a new page, create a new service section, reorganise your navigation. Jobs that would normally require logging in, finding the right settings, and hoping you don't break something.

Building things from scratch This is the part that genuinely surprises people. With the right setup, you can ask it to build custom functionality for your site; a simple plugin, a custom form, a specific behaviour you've always wanted but assumed you'd need a developer for. It writes the code, installs it, and tests it. You describe what you want in plain language.

Site auditing and advice Ask it what's wrong with your site, what could be improved, or why something isn't working. It can look at your content, your structure, and your settings and give you a straight answer.

Is WordPress MCP setup right for every site?

This is still early-access territory. It's genuinely impressive and we use it ourselves, but it's not a replacement for a considered web strategy or a skilled developer for complex work. For the right tasks it's fast and surprisingly capable. For others, a human is still the better call.

We'll be upfront with you about which is which before we set anything up.

There's also a subscription requirement on your end to make it work; not expensive, and we'll walk you through exactly what's needed when we chat.

What does WordPress MCP setup cost?

Setup is charged at our standard rate of $140 + GST per hour. Getting a solid working setup in place typically takes two to three hours depending on your site.
We'll give you an honest estimate after we've had a look.

How we handle your WordPress MCP setup

1. We assess your site

Not every WordPress setup is identical. We check your hosting, your configuration, and what you want to use it for before we start.

2. We connect everything

We handle the technical side of connecting your AI assistant to your WordPress site. It's not complicated once you know what you're doing, but it's not something most people would want to figure out themselves.

3. We test it properly

This is the part most setups skip. An AI connected to your site but not correctly configured will still attempt tasks — it just won't always go about them the right way. We make sure the right abilities are available, that the AI is finding and using them correctly, and that it's not improvising workarounds when the proper path hits a snag. If something isn't working cleanly, we fix it before handing anything over.

4. We show you how to use it

The interface itself is simple; it's just a conversation. We walk you through what it can handle, how to phrase requests to get the best results, and where the limits are.

The tool we use: Novamira Pro

We use Novamira Pro as our WordPress MCP tool of choice. It’s purpose-built for WordPress and covers a lot more than basic content updates.

As part of our setup, your AI assistant gets access to:

  • Elementor — edit page layouts and content directly through conversation
  • Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) — read and update custom field data across your site
  • Memory — the AI can remember context about your site between sessions
  • And more — Novamira Pro includes a wide range of WordPress abilities covering posts, pages, menus, settings, WooCommerce, and other core site functions

As an agency licence holder, we include Novamira Pro in every MCP setup at no extra cost to you.
